To add to all of my creative endevours, I’m also the Wise County Messenger’s IT Director. I currently oversee a network of more than 40 Mac OSX desktops (from G5 “cheese-graters” to iMacs to Mac Minis to a G5 Xserve), laptops (MacBooks and MacBook Pros) and various iPhones, iPads, and Android-based phones and tablets. I’ve got experience with various other peripherals, like HP, Xerox and Konica Minolta printers and copiers, Epson flatbed scanners, card readers, digital cameras and USB and FireWire peripherals.

I am the network administrator in all of this, looking over a Mac OSX Xserve network and all the switches and routers behind it, as well as running network cabling through walls and ceilings all over the building, in addition to the Apple AirPort WiFi network we maintain.

As far as software in concerned, I am the chief decision maker for which software packages we use (including our current Baseview/MediaSpan NewsEdit Pro editorial package (soon to be replaced with Adobe’s InCopy), the business department’s Baseview/MediaSpan AdManager Pro (soon to replaced with Fake Brains), and our decision several years ago to migrate from QuarkXPress to Adobe InDesign).

As far as the web in concerned, I have worked with many different web hosts, including our current, InMotion Hosting, where we have our own dedicated server. I am well versed in Social Networking (Facebook, Twitter, etc.), DNS issues, SEO, Cpanel and WebHostManager, as well as programming languages like HTML and HTML5, CSS and CSS3, PHP, MySQL, JavaScript and CGI. Though I can craft a site from scratch, my preferred method of late is WordPress, which can be more than just a simple blogging package with the right plugins and extensions. I’ve also utilized both Drupal and Joomla in the past, though this is an area I am still studying, as is jQuery Mobile and PhoneGap to create mobile device applications.
